Why Economic Freedom Is the Best Defense Against Russian Aggression

President Joe Biden recently said that Vladimir Putin will “pay a price” for interfering in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

But no price will be paid.

Nothing will happen to Putin.

That guy is untouchable.

And quite frankly, the U.S. is in no position to saber rattle right now.

This nation is drowning in debt.

Socially and politically, we have never been more divided.

The ugly face of racism is showing its teeth as we continue to see more and more evidence of racially motivated attacks. You needn’t look any further than the recent rise in anti-Asian sentiment across the country.

Well-paid propagandists who populate social media with vitriol and misinformation now seem to have more sway over our hearts and minds than legitimate sources of information and even our own family members.

Overzealous religious groups are instigating violence against Americans who don’t fall in line with their chosen and oftentimes extreme dogmas.

Far-left dog whistlers are treating the First Amendment not as vital to the health and stability of our nation but as something to be considered optional based on their own ideologies.

Far-right instigators are embracing fascist ideologies and quoting Adolf Hitler while claiming to be patriotic Americans. The head-scratching irony is not lost on me.

Truth is, there really has never been a better time for our enemies to capitalize on all this civil unrest.

So when Biden says Putin will pay a price, I’m trying to figure out what kind of leverage we have to do much of anything when we can’t even maintain peace within our own borders

What’s Biden going to do?

Sanction Russia?

Poke the bear that’s spent the past four years getting bigger, stronger, and more aggressive?

Truth is, if we have any desire to protect ourselves against nations run by sycophants and dictators who want to bring us to our knees, we need to first get our own house in order — politically, economically, and socially.

Economic Freedom Is a Gift

While I don’t know much about how to repair the torn fabric of our society, nor do I know how to rectify the sad tragedy that has become our political system, I do know a bit about how to strengthen our economic swagger.

The one thing we have going for us is that the majority of people in this country still support free-market capitalism — or at least as “free” as it can be in today’s world.

The basic fundamentals of supply and demand, coupled with the opportunity entrepreneurs have to build something of value, are what allow us the privilege of wealth creation and protection.

Certainly, not all Americans fully understand this, and in some cases they actually trivialize it. But no matter how you slice it — for now, anyway — we still have access to this gift called free enterprise, even as watered down as it has become.

And that gives us an advantage over other nations that wish to do us harm.

As an analyst, I spend a lot of time researching companies that I know will help me create significant wealth. But that wealth isn’t created just for the purpose of buying “things.”

It’s so much bigger than that.

It’s about safety, security, and freedom.

It’s about having the ability to not only provide for your family but also your community — your local businesses, your local schools, your local charities.

Make no mistake: Your individual ability to create wealth and use that wealth to support your local economy is far more valuable than well-strategized political threats coming from the White House or any “new government program” designed to save all of us “little people” from poverty, debt, and hardship.

Look, there will always be other countries that wish to do us harm.

I take no joy in writing those words, but this is simply an observation of truth. And while a strong military and economic freedom serve as safeguards against our foreign enemies, your individual ability to create and protect your own wealth is what will allow you to thrive in any economic downturn, social unrest, or political instability.

This is a gift that millions of people throughout the world would kill for — and certainly many have died for.

But we are fortunate since every morning we wake up with access to this gift.

Take advantage of it.

Use it.

And above all else — protect it.

To a new way of life and a new generation of wealth…
