Silver Depletion By 2050? What Will Happen To Tech?

Dear Reader,

It’s estimated that by the year 2050, silver demand will exceed global reserves.

To the uninformed this may sound like a forgettable issue, but the reality is, this is a growing crisis for the global economy which will require decades of preparation to tackle to avert a full-blown distaster.

Let me elaborate…

While silver is most commonly known as gold’s cheaper, less unique second-fiddle precious metal, its function beyond jewelry is where its true importance lies.

While only about ¼ of silver supply is consumed by jewelry, coinage and silverware, half of it is consumed by the electronics industry, with another 10-12% going to a single application — solar panels.

Because of its prevalence as a raw industrial material, silver is actually more of a tech metal than a precious metal, and it’s because of specifically this demand that silver is becoming less and less abundant every day.

Gold's Little Brother… Not So Little Anymore

When we reach the midcentury point, silver prices will skyrocket as irrecoverable consumption, for the first time ever, outstrips our capacity to produce more.

Now, I know that few of you out there are looking for investments with a 3 decade time horizon, but there is another opportunity being driven by these forces that’s far, far more immediate

Silver will require a replacement if we’re to continue our growing dependance on technology, and right now, there is one material that looks to be the apparent heir to silver’s crown: graphene.

Known for its properties as a superior conductor of heat and electrons, graphene is an artificial material which can now be produced using nothing but carbon and electricity.

Thanks to these advancements in production, graphene, which just a decade ago was twice as expensive to produce as gold, is now becoming orders of magnitude cheaper.

One company, based out of Brisbane, Australia, is leading this charge with an proprietary production method using natural gas as the carbon source.

Replacing Silver With A Better, Cheaper, 'Alien-Tech' Material

The company that’s working on this is a development stage firm, meaning it’s still early in its life cycle, but therein lies the opportunity.

You see, this company already trades publicly in North America — a rarity for a company this small.

It also has products on the market already, including a graphene coating designed to manage thermal buildup. But that’s not what I’m excited about it.

The product, which will carry this company out of the microcap valuation range and into primetime, is a graphene-based rechargeable battery.

These batteries, which are in late-stage testing and headed for commercialization, boast performance stats which like all things graphene-related, are on a completely different level.

They can hold 2-3 times the charge as Li-Ion, last for up to 5 times as long in terms of charges and discharges, and charge up to 70 times as fast.

That last statistic is the real game changer, and is credited entirely to graphene’s superior ‘carrier mobility’ — the measure of how quickly charge carriers (electrons) move through a material when an electric field is applied.

Can Natural Gas Save The Tech Sector?

In this regard, graphene simply has no peer. In fact, it beats silver by a factor of 5000, which is what allows those unbelievable charge rates.

And given the charge rate of today’s benchmark rechargeable batteries — lithium ion — unbelievable is a fitting adjective.

Imagine being able to charge your phone from zero to capacity in less than a minute.

Imagine being able to charge your EV faster than you can fill a tank of gasoline, and then drive it all month long on that single charge.

That’s the kind of performance improvement we’re looking at once these batteries hit commercialization.

With 2024 behind us, last year’s turmoils will likely become a historical footnote as we head into a new bull market.

And this company’s rock-bottom valuation will almost certainly get a substantial upgrade over the course of the next 12 months.
