Recession proof stocks should be on your grocery list right now.
While earlier forecasts indicated a 2025 recession was unlikely, updated forecasts aren’t quite as positive. This isn’t to say a recession is a lock, but the president himself hasn’t ruled out a recession, stocks have plummeted, and the labor market is cooling off.
As a former boy scout, I subscribe to the motto, “be prepared.” Always have, actually. And seeing that there’s no indication as to whether or not these confusing tariffs and trade wars are part of a very smart strategic plan or ego-driven decision-making, it would be wise to “be prepared” for a potential recession.
Even if a recession doesn’t come, there’s little downside to adding some recession proof stocks to your portfolio.

Recession Proof Stocks for 2025
It’s no secret that utilities, healthcare, and consumer staples tend to weather recessionary storms pretty well. Some historically solid recession proof stocks in these categories include, but are not limited to…
- NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE)
- Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM)
- Walmart (NYSE: WMT)
- Costco (NASDAQ: COST)
- Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN)
- United Health (NYSE: UNH)
- Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ)
- Pfizer (NYSE: PFE)
Gold, of course, is also a great asset to own during a recession.
Unfortunately, most investors don’t know where to start with gold stocks.
That’s why our Energy & Capital research team has decided to reveal our top gold pick. It’s an ETF that holds both the world’s biggest gold miners AND explosive junior miners poised for hyper-growth in this gold bull market.
This particular ETF is already one of the best-performing funds in the market. Yet, it’s still undervalued by as much as 78%.
In terms of recession-proof stocks, you’re not going to do better than this gold play. Which is why I highly recommend you get it in your portfolio right away.
To a new way of life and a new generation of wealth…
