Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) and Mortenson Construction announced that they have broken ground on a proposed 2.5-megawatt photovoltaic solar facility in Laurinburg, N.C. The project is estimated to be complete by December of this year.
Canadian Solar is one of the world’s biggest solar companies, and it is responsible for overall project delivery. It will also supply required modules to Mortenson, which is a leading engineering and construction contractor. Mortenson is in charge of completing designing and installing all equipment for the solar array.
The PV system is being developed by Birdseye Renewable Energy and will be situated on a 10-acre site. It is expected that the project will power around 300 homes via the 3,483 MWh of clean electricity it will produce.
From the Sacramento Bee:
“The Laurinburg Solar Farm marks an important milestone for Canadian Solar in the United States,” noted Noah Eckert, director of commercial and utility-scale markets, Canadian Solar. “Canadian Solar’s goal is to support our customers and partners to bring utility-scale projects to completion. Canadian Solar already has a record of being one of the most prominent suppliers of solar modules in the U.S. market. Project solutions are expected to bring in almost 25 percent of its total revenue for this year, compared to 10 percent last year.
The company is a leading provider of ingot, wafer, solar cell, solar module, and other solar solutions to both on- and off-grid customers worldwide.
Mortenson Construction is based in the U.S. and held privately.
