NiSource Gas Transmission and Storage (NYSE: NI) will be expanding its existing natural gas pipeline on Center Square Road to respond to heightened demand as well as to open up an in-route for gas from the Marcellus Shale through Gloucester County in New Jersey.
The East Side Expansion Project, as it’s being called, will basically run parallel to Center Sq. Road through Logan, Woolrich, and Swedesboro in Gloucester County. From NJ.com:
“South Jersey Gas is looking for additional pressure and capacity,” Logan Township Administrator Lyman Barnes said. “As it gets further along and takes more shape we will have to look more closely at it.”
The project is expected to come with a bill of $20 million, and development will commence from early 2015. The Marcellus Shale, of course, is the enormously rich formation of marine sedimentary rock found through most of the Appalachian Basin. The controversial process known as fracking has generated rich returns in oil and natural gas from these shale reserves.
